ABOUT — MEET MELODY

Hi. I'm Melody.

For over twenty-five years birthwork has been my calling and my ministry.

MY JOURNEY TO MIDWIFERY

A front-row seat to the beauty of birth.

I've been captivated by pregnancy, birth, and babies since I was a young girl. Growing up as the second oldest of eight, it seemed I always had a baby on my hip — and it was one of my favorite things. As I watched my mother walk through pregnancy, birth, and motherhood again and again, I had a front-row seat to both the beauty and the realities of family life.

My curiosity grew with every pregnancy. I peppered her with questions and devoured her books on pregnancy and childbirth. I distinctly recall my dad declaring that just maybe I'd be a midwife myself one day.

He was right.

I watched midwives walk alongside my mother through all eight of her homebirths — steady, compassionate, informative. They empowered her to trust her body. And the seeds that planted in me grew.

In 1998 I began my midwifery journey. Over the course of several years of study and clinical training — including an internship at Casa de Nacimiento and completing the Association of Texas Midwives Midwifery Program — I became a licensed midwife in the state of Texas in 2002 and a Certified Professional Midwife through the North American Registry of Midwives.

Over the course of my career I have attended more than 1,300 births and mentored dozens of midwifery students. I still consider this work a calling — not just a career.

Over more than two decades, I've been committed to continually growing as a midwife through education, clinical experience, leadership, and mentoring.

Where it all began.

THE EXPERIENCES THAT SHAPED ME

I don't just understand it clinically. I understand it personally.

After marrying my sweetheart in 2006, my family walked through four and a half years of infertility. It was a deeply painful and emotional season — and one that drove me to dig deeper into learning about my body, hormones, and the science that underlies fertility and loss. What I learned during that season continues to shape how I care for women navigating infertility, pregnancy after loss, miscarriage, and the tender road to motherhood. I don't just understand it clinically. I understand it personally.

Today I am the proud mother of four children. My own births have spanned the full range of what this journey can look like — a long posterior labor with my first where I had to reach into the depths of my own fears and find my way through, a postdates six hour water birth that was everything I had hoped for, another six hour water birth, and then my fourth — an unexpected preterm emergency transfer at 36 weeks and six days where I went on to have a natural vaginal birth in the hospital, attended by a CNM alongside my midwife. I have experienced birth as a mother, not just as a midwife. Every one of those experiences has deepened my compassion, my skill, and my commitment to the families I serve.

A PRACTICE BUILD ON RELATIONSHIP

Intentionally small — because intimacy is the point.

This practice is intentionally small. Not because I can't take on more — but because intimacy is the point. The capacity to give attentive, present care to every family I serve matters more to me than volume.

Routine prenatal appointments are scheduled one day each week. I am also a wife, a mother, and a homeschooling mom, and I protect that time intentionally. Over the years I've learned that caring well for my own family allows me to care well for yours.

My office is a warm, home-based space designed to feel welcoming rather than clinical. Children are always welcome, and partners and loved ones are encouraged to be involved throughout your care.

This is not a large group practice. It is one provider who knows you — from your first visit through your postpartum season.

At times I integrate a midwifery student into your care. Far from taking anything away from your experience, it adds to it — more hands, more presence, more encouragement. It is also something I consider a privilege. Mentoring the next generation of skilled midwives is part of how I give back to a profession that has shaped my entire life. You will always be informed when a student is part of your care team, and your comfort and consent matter.

Occasionally circumstances require coverage for a simultaneous birth, illness, emergency, or planned time away. When that happens, I make arrangements in advance with trusted, qualified colleagues so you can feel confident knowing you'll continue to receive excellent care.

WHAT I BELIEVE

Women deserve access to information, not pressure. Partnership, not paternalism.

I believe a midwife's role is to offer honest guidance, thoughtful recommendations, and compassionate support while respecting each family's autonomy.

I'll always tell you what I think — including when I have concerns. That's part of my responsibility as your provider. But I'll never pressure you, shame you, or make you feel that your voice doesn't matter. The decisions are ultimately yours. My role is to make sure you have the information, perspective, and support you need to make decisions that align with your values, your circumstances, and your goals.

Midwifery is ministry to me.

Pregnancy and birth are among the most significant seasons in a woman's life. They reach far beyond the physical, touching her mind, body, soul, and spirit. Walking alongside women and families through this sacred season is one of the greatest privileges of my life.

I believe women's bodies are beautifully designed for birth. I believe thoughtful preparation matters. And I approach every birth with confidence in the normal physiology of birth while remaining attentive to careful assessment, sound clinical judgment, and individualized care.

Above all, I am committed to providing the right care, at the right time, in the right setting. Sometimes that is at home. Sometimes it is in the hospital. My commitment has never been to a location — it has always been to the well-being of the families I serve.

MY FAITH

My faith in Christ is an important part of who I am and influences the way I care for families. It shapes the way I listen, communicate, and walk alongside others with compassion, humility, and respect.

While my faith informs my life and my practice, I serve families from many different backgrounds and beliefs. My desire is for every family who walks through my doors to feel genuinely welcomed, deeply respected, and thoughtfully cared for.

BEYOND MIDWIFERY

When I'm not caring for families.

When I'm not caring for families, you'll usually find me spending time outdoors, exploring natural health, researching trauma and neurodiversity, or soaking up time with my husband and our four children.

I've always been someone who loves to learn. Whether I'm studying the latest research, asking questions, or exploring new ideas, I'm continually growing — both as a midwife and as a person.

IN THEIR WORDS

What families say about working with me

I'd love the opportunity to hear your story.

A Discovery Call is simply a chance for us to get to know one another, answer your questions, and determine whether we're the right fit. If we are, it would be a true privilege to walk with you through this season. If we're not, I'll gladly help you find the provider who is.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know the heart behind this practice.
